Small Group Leaders

As we consider what it means to become GardenCity, we envision a place that exists to promote the flourishing of all people, which includes our kids, youth, and adults.

We follow the lead of Jesus, who prioritized relationships with others. The New Testament is full of examples where Jesus regularly gathered and ate with other people. Much of his ministry took place around a table with people. It’s clear that as adults, we are better when we are in a relationship with both Jesus and each other, growing together.  We also see Jesus welcoming children, creating spaces where they were seen and knew they belonged, and saying children are our models for what it looks like to live in the Kingdom of God.

So what do we do?

To make this possible, we need to significantly grow our number of group leaders for both kids, teens and adults.

For kids:

  • A small group leader is someone willing to serve one Sunday a month with their consistent group of 5-12 kids. There are opportunities available from 2 years old through high school, but our biggest need is Elementary and Middle School ages.
  • You will get to know the names of the kids in your group and what’s going on in their lives. This might include playing a game or doing a craft (Which will be prepared ahead of time for you) that reinforces the Bible Story they are learning that day. For older kids, this looks like facilitating a discussion that helps them apply what they’re learning to their daily lives.

For adults:

  • A group leader is someone willing to facilitate a group of people on a regular rhythm that the leader decides but is recommended 1x/week or bi-weekly. Groups can be facilitated in leader homes or at the church.
  • You will facilitate a time of casual conversation (usually including food and drinks), sermon-based discussion, and prayer. Leaders are provided a weekly guide of sermon-based questions, so you’ll have all you need for a great time of discussion.

For both:

  • Listening, being present, and caring are the most important things! This isn’t about teaching or being a bible expert – it’s simply about offering
