Community Group Online Directory

What is Community Group and why should I join?

As we get bigger as a church, community groups allow us to grow smaller. Groups exist to foster belonging, grow in relationship with Jesus and others, and inspire others to join in. The New Testament is full of descriptions of Jesus spending time with his disciples, doing life together. We see them meeting with people of all ranks and backgrounds. Jesus has called us to take part in his mission, reuniting humanity with God. The impact of community is that we belong to each other. We move past the convenience of attendance and give ourselves to risky, yet life-giving interdependence, where we need each other to be all that God has called and created us to be.

What can I expect at Community Group?

You can expect a beautiful representation of what we hope to be… a clear yet messy picture of God’s family, drawn together with a diversity of backgrounds, brokenness, culture, and giftings… a deep yet diverse community. During our time in group, we gather to share casual conversation and connection, sermon-based discussion, and prayer. Group gatherings are roughly 90 minutes. We have a variety of group types and locations.

What is expected of me if I join a Community Group?

There are a few things that can help you get off to a great start as you take your next step in community. The first is a commitment to community. Many distractions can pull us from fully engaging in community, and it takes our prayerful intentionality and pursuit to stay connected. This is why community is a spiritual discipline. The second is understanding that finding the right community for you might take some time, and that’s okay. When trying a group, give it 3-4 gatherings before deciding whether to stay or try another group. It takes time to build a connection and trust. But if after a few gatherings you feel it’s not the right fit, share that with the group leader and try another group.

What if I can’t find a group that meets my preferences and availability?

Currently, all our Community Groups are listed in the directory. We are continuing to grow our team of leaders, so additional groups may form at a later date. Periodically check back to see what new groups may be posted. In the meantime, you are invited to join us for our monthly Women’s Gathering on the 2nd Fridays of the month or Men’s Connect on the 3rd Thursdays of the month. Please visit myffc.info for more information. If you have additional questions or if you are interested in learning more about leading your own Community Group, please get in touch with Natalie Lanctot, Executive Director, at nlanctot@faithfamilyshiloh.org.
